Broadband Updates

Fibre Available to majority of Sigingstone

posted 9 Aug 2017, 04:08 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 24 Jun 2018, 05:55 ]

The majority* of properties in Sigingstone can now get a FTTP fibre broadband service. Please see the FTTP installation process guide and the broadband pages for more information.

Unfortunately, Llanmihangel was not in scope as part of the Superfast Cymru funded programme. Those residents wanting a fibre or higher speed Broadband connection are advised to read the the steps below.

To those that are no longer covered to get a fibre service:

There are a few properties that can not get this FTTP fibre broadband service. Work was expected to install more manifolds and distribution points within the village, however this has not happened and the programme that was supporting the roll out of fibre came to an end on 31/12/2017.

There is currently some clarifications on what happens next going on, and once I know I will update you in due course.

Some of the suggestions so far have been as follows:

  1. Wait – Welsh Government are planning a successor project to extend broadband further and more details are expected very early in 2018. This is likely to be based from the data collected from the Welsh Government's OMR and Consultation they did back in 2017.

  2. Take matters into your own hands – We run a scheme called Community Fibre Partnerships (https://communityfibre.openreach.co.uk/wales) where communities can privately fund broadband infrastructure – it provides certainty whereas 1) above at best requires a wait. We have over 300 schemes in various stages of build across the UK using this route. This could be considered for your community and to help, Welsh Government have grants available. Details of the grants can be accessed from the above link.
The availability of grants may also be based
from the data collected from the Welsh Government's OMR and Consultation they did back in 2017.

As there are a few queries about why this has happened, what this means and when will I be able to order a fibre broadband solution, please take the above as a starting point and once all clarified I shall update you so you can then choose what you want to do.

*Please note that the above issue is unrelated to the capacity issues that some have experienced when trying to place a order - this is being resolved.

Fibre Deployment Update July 2017

posted 20 Jul 2017, 10:46 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 10 Aug 2017, 13:35 ]

Parts of the information below has been superseded and is no longer valid. Please check the most recent updates.

Following on from the April Update, I have received an email from the Welsh Government stating that the fibre Broadband service is estimated to be ready to order from September/October 2017.

I am still awaiting confirmation from the BT Group and Openreach.

You may have noticed that new equipment has been installed on poles throughout the village. These will eventually allow a fibre cable to be installed from this new infrastructure and into your property. Although these works seem to be coming to an end, there are still a few outstanding bits of ground works that need to be done along with the fibre splicing.

Update 25/07/2017: After speaking to the BNE sub contractors, there is still quite a lot of work that needs to be done (approx a month's worth). The current delay was partially due to shortage and issues ordering the blown fibre splitter nodes and fibre distribution points.

Another update will be circulated once more information becomes available.

Fibre Deployment Update April 2017

posted 1 Apr 2017, 05:37 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 4 Apr 2017, 05:33 ]

Unfortunately, due to the Local Authority processes required in order to obtain a permit and to carry out roadworks within the area, the FTTP fibre deployment to the village and surrounding areas has had further delays.

This means that the Infrastructure may not be ready for service until September/October 2017.
Though please bear in mind that if there are any further issues this may push the Ready For Service dates further into 2017/2018.

These delays have been caused by the Local Authority not permitting some roadworks to be carried out until June/July which will cause deployment delays to Llysworney, Nash Manor and Sigingstone.

Openreach and the BT Group are trying to negotiate with the Local Authorities to try and bring these dates forward, though this may not be possible due.
They have however stated that they are confident and committed to completing the works.

I have also raised this up the the Council. Though you may wish to make a complaint yourself in which you can do so by the following :
If you would like a copy of the communications I have received from the BT Group regarding the FTTP deployment, then drop me an email by using the contact page (select "Sigingstone Webmaster").

I will send another update if I hear any other news or if the dates are brought forward.

Fibre Deployment Update 17th March 2017

posted 17 Mar 2017, 09:01 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 1 Apr 2017, 05:27 ]

Parts of the information below has been superseded and is no longer valid. Please check the most recent updates.

There has been some additional works and challenges that have cropped up over the last few weeks. This has added some delay to completing the FTTP infrastructure within the village and surrounding area.

Some of the issues which have resulted in the delay include:
  • Additional Wayleave negotiation.
  • Highways and additional Wayleave approvals for new equipment.
  • Work to rectify recently identified blocked and collapsed ducts.
  • Revised policy to provide FTTP structures within 150m of properties, resulting in the need to add in additional structures to the build.
Some of the above aren't necessarily specific to the village but related to a near by locality which is within the same local project and build. Therefore has also impacted the RFS date to the village.

It is estimated that the FTTP infrastructure build will now complete in April 2017. This will result in an estimated Ready For Service (RFS) date, where you can order the new service, sometime in May/June 2017.

If there are any further delays or updates, I will let you know. The SFC/Openreach tracker should also be updated to reflect any delays, however the timescales shown here are quarterly dates rather then showing the current estimated month till able to order.

Fibre Deployment Update 2nd March 2017

posted 2 Mar 2017, 11:10 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 17 Mar 2017, 08:42 ]

Parts of the information below has been superseded and is no longer valid. Please check the most recent updates.

The current status on the FTTP build within Sigingstone is that everything is currently looking on track for completion this month.

The SFC/Openreach tracker is also reflecting this current status by indicating that the build will be completed within 1 month if everything goes smoothly.

Please be aware that it may take 6-8 weeks after the build completion date until anyone can order a FTTP service with an ISP (i.e this could mean a ISP will be able to take FTTP order from around April/May time). Also any delays will cause the Ready For Service date to slip further into 2017.

You would have noticed within the last few months that there have been additional poles and chambers installed along with roadworks within the verges and carriageways. These are to house and distribute the FTTP infrastructure across the village. In some cases the existing chambers, ducts and poles may not be adequate enough in terms of space or due to regulations to house or affix the new infrastructure. Therefore replacements or additional infrastructure will need to be installed.
Openreach (or a contractor working on behalf of Openreach) will try to reduce and limit the impacts of these works by surveying and planning the route along with the position of any new equipment.

If there are any further delays or updates, I will let you know. The SFC/Openreach tracker should also be updated to reflect any delays.

For those who use twitter, you can also interact with Openreach using @OpenreachGB.

Fibre Deployment Update Jan. 2017

posted 28 Jan 2017, 16:41 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 28 Jan 2017, 17:15 ]

Due to the processes and issues of obtaining multiple wayleaves on the route to Sigingstone, that has taken a significant amount of time to resolve with the multiple landowners, this has resulted in additional delays until the FTTP service will be ready for service and order.

Openreach's current plans are estimating a completion date of March 2017 for the infrastructure. This will be followed by the commissioning process which can take 6-8 weeks.

Taking this into account then you can be looking a the FTTP service within Sigingstone to be ready for service sometime in May 2017 however this date will move later into 2017 if there are further delays.

Fibre Deployment Update Dec. 2016

posted 20 Dec 2016, 01:31 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 28 Jan 2017, 16:43 ]

This information has been superseded and is no longer valid. Please check the most recent updates.

Due to unexpected additional civils works as well as additional works required to further extend the reach of the FTTP network to more premises, this has added additional delays until the FTTP service will be ready for service and order.

Openreach and their sub contractors will be working over the festive period to try and bring some of the dates forward where possible.

They are currently aiming for the fibre service in Sigingstone to be ready for service sometime in February however this date will move into March or later into 2017 if there are further delays.

Fibre Deployment Update Nov. 2016

posted 20 Nov 2016, 14:08 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 28 Jan 2017, 16:44 ]

This information has been superseded and is no longer valid. Please check the most recent updates.

The deployment works have slipped by approximately 3 weeks due to a delay in receiving approvals from the VoG Council and highways for some ground works required within the village.

The current timeline is:
  • All the deployment ground works to be finished before the Christmas period, this will then be followed by the commissioning process (testing, updating systems and altering Communication Providers).
  • FTTP infrastructure Ready for Service around Mid-Late January 2017

Fibre Deployment Update Oct. 2016

posted 2 Oct 2016, 14:27 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 2 Oct 2016, 14:33 ]

There have been various correspondents and meetings over the last month regarding the fibre deployment in the area. The general outcome throughout is that the FTTP broadband infrastructure to the village along with various other village around Cowbridge such as Llywsorney and Nash Manor will be Ready for Service around January 2017.

The FTTP deployment work within the Cowbridge exchange area has picked up a lot over the last few weeks, so please be aware of any road closures and traffic management in the area whilst Openreach and their sub-contractors continue with the fibre broadband rollout.
Roadworks.org and the VoG council website should help alert you to any roadworks in the area.

There was also a meeting organised by Alun Cairns with Ed Hunt (Director of NGA,Next Generation Access, for Wales) for the Community Leaders throughout the Vale. A summary of the meeting can be view here
Any further information will be posted up here.

Fibre Deployment Update Aug. 2016

posted 2 Aug 2016, 10:42 by Sigingstone Webmaster   [ updated 2 Aug 2016, 10:46 ]

Unfortunately it seems that residents in Sigingstone won't be able to order a Fibre broadband service at the end of this Summer (as stated in the last update - July 2016).

For currently unknown reasons the FTTP deployment completion date for Sigingstone has been pushed back to November 2016. This provisional date could still get pushed back again.

This means that it's unlikely that the FTTP broadband infrastructure in the village will be ready for service (i.e you can order a fibre broadband service from a Communication Provider) till approx. after New Year at the earliest.

For complaints, you can email the Welsh Government team at nextgenerationbroadb@wales.gsi.gov.uk or raise this up with your AM or MP.

Please also be aware that due to changes in how Superfast Cymru communicates with the public, that the BT Group based team no longer handles individual enquires and that the Superfast Cymru email address and website has been superseded. These are now being handled by a team within the Welsh Government.

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to contact me via the contact page (select "Sigingstone Webmaster").
