Fibre Deployment Update May 2015

Post date: 14-May-2015 19:24:45

The latest information from Superfast Cymru states that the FTTP (Fibre to the Premise) deployment phase within the Cowbridge Exchange area is well under way, and that work deploying FTTP to Sigingstone should start very soon with some speculation that it may be ready by the end of this Summer*.

The deployment of FTTP requires a lot more engineering than FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet), and temporary traffic management may have to be applied to some roads, for example 2way Traffic signals, whist works are being done.

New poles may have to also be installed within the village, due to the issue with Joint Use Poles (JUP). The locations of the new poles would have been decided during the Surveying and planning stages of the deployment to the village.

Some of the signs that FTTP is being deployed are objects such as manifolds, black with yellow striped ducting (tubing) and pole mounted splitters. Have a look at this good guide written by Thinkbroadband: Spotters guide to fibre broadband

However work will often continue behind the scenes, so not all the works done in the deployment of FTTP can be identified and no works doesn't necessarily mean that Openreach have hit a problem or been delayed.

There are some roadworks planned which may be related to the deployment of FTTP to Sigingstone:

  • Between Nash and the first left turning towards Sigingstone (by Topstak) on the B4270 (Llantwit Major Road).

Estimated Time frame: 18th - 19th May 2015. Complete

Description: Provision of fibre cables by Openreach as part of the BDUK Wales high speed broadband programme in the Cowbridge exchange area.

Notes: 2 way Traffic signals in operation.

  • Between Carne Terrace and Nash Manor (B4268 Junction) on on the B4270 (Llantwit Major Road).

Estimated Time frame: 19th - 20th May 2015. 2nd June - 3rd June 2015 Complete

*Please be aware that it is hard to estimate a time frame on how long it will take for the deployment to be complete due to unforeseeable issues that may crop up during the deployment. Also note that plans may change.
